Fulcurm road wheels: Overview

One thing I had problem differentiating between the various aluminum models is, which model has what features ? or how many spokes there are in this model? No worries  I have got down what all the features are, what it means to consumers as well as the weight of each models without the tires and cassettes.

Wheel Technologies
2 way fit
Simply put it means that the rims are able to run both clincher and tubeless tires.

Dynamic Balance™
Weight of the rim is balanced, meaning that each section of the rim is of equal weight

USB™
Stands for Ultra Smooth Bearings. They are Ceramic Bearings and though it sounds very dubious. Fulcrum Bearings are among the best that I have tried so far, its unbelievably smooth!

Ultra Fit
It is harder to mount tires than normal since Fulcurm has engineered the rim in such a way that the tires are supposed to fit “perfectly”

◘2:1 Two-to-One™
Only applicable to the rear wheel, there are two spokes on the drive side for every 1 there is on the non drive side.

MoMag™
Thought I read it as NoMag, but it is MoMag! Means that nipples have to be mounted onto their position on the rims using a magnet.Doesn’t sound very fun to me

Anti-Rotation System™
I do not know what it means but my guess is the spokes and hubs are probably made from a single piece of metal. Think the metallic form of Lightweight wheels.

F.I.C. Fulcrum Identification Card
Someone out there is responsible for the building of your wheel and not some automated wheel truing machine

Finally here are the models!

Racing Zero(Comes in 2 way fit as well)

Claimed weight 1430G

Actual weight of mine 634g front 834g rear 1508g total
Deviation from claimed weight: 78g/ 5.4%

So what does your money get you?
Spoke count:16 spokes front 21 (14:7) Rear
Carbon Fiber Hub shell for both Front and Rear
Front Rim Height:26mm Rear Rim Height: 30mm

and the following technologies
2 way fit
Dynamic Balance™
USB™
MoMag™
◘2:1 Two-to-One™

Racing One(Comes in  two way fit as well)

Claimed weight 1485G

So what does your money get you?
Spoke count 16 Front 21 Rear
Front Rim Height 26mm Rear Rim Height 30mm

and the following technologies
2 way fit
Dynamic Balance™
MoMag™
◘2:1 Two-to-One™

What is the difference between Racing One and Zero?
Carbon Fibre hub shell for the Racing Zero as opposed to the normal hub shell for the Racing One
Ceramic USB Bearings for the Racing Zero as opposed to the normal cup and cone bearings for the Racing One (still very good high quality bearings)

Racing Three (Comes in  two way fit as well)

Claimed weight 1485G

So what does your money get you?
Spoke count 16 Front 21 Rear
Front Rim Height 26mm Rear Rim Height 30mm

and the following technologies
2 way fit
Dynamic Balance™
MoMag™
◘2:1 Two-to-One™

Anti-Rotation System™

Difference between the 3?
The Racing three has an “anti rotation system”  which according to Fulcrum “keeps the wheel in aerodynamic most of the time”. Its weight comes from its single milled rim as opposed to the Racing One’s and Racing Zero’s triple milled rim. Its spokes are also made out of steel compared to Racing Ones and Zeros Aluminum spokes.

And finally, the “Training wheel” series

Racing Five

Claimed weight 1760G

So what does your money get you?
Spoke count 20 Front 24 Rear
Rim Height 24mm

and the following technologies
Dynamic Balance™
◘2:1 Two-to-One™

Racing 5 overview
Racing 5 is a training wheel, something that comes with stock bike. Thus, rims and spokes are built from steel. Balancing of the rim is done thru two over sized spokes and not through the milling of the rim. Rims are the standard type requiring rim tape. Though it is a training wheel, it comes with aerodynamic spokes which should make the wheel faster(and easier to pedal at high speed) as compared to round spokes.Bearings on the Racing Five is through cartridge bearing compared to the cup and cone of its bigger brothers which should be cheaper and easier to replace.

Racing Seven

Claimed weight 1849g

So what does your money get you?
Spoke count 20 Front 24 Rear
Rim Height 24mm

and the following technologies
◘2:1 Two-to-One™

Racing 7 vs Racing 5
Key difference between the two is the lack of aerodynamic, flat spokes and the lack of “dynamic balance” in the Racing 7.  Features about the same as the Racing 5.

Any one with real world weights on the other wheels ? Would love to see the difference
